Everybody loves a good scare now and then. What is better than snuggling onto the couch with friends or loved ones, holding tight to a bowl of popcorn, and having the living daylights scares out of you by one of the best horror movies around? Unfortunately, there just don’t seem to be that many out there anymore that can really deliver some of that good old fashioned scare time. Older movies, tend to provide the best horror, because instead of relying on special effects like they do now, these older gems, had to put the fear in your imagination by way of artful directing, compelling story lines, and realistic, believable action. All of these elements are required to make a good horror movie. The movie The Shining, directed by Stanley Kubrick, is an excellent example of horror done correctly. It uses good film making to make the viewer fear the antagonist and the evil forces that drive him.
